Mission
The overall mission of the UCSD-UCLA DERC is to foster research in the prevention and treatment of diabetes and endocrine diseases and their complications and ultimately to improve the lives of endocrine patients.
Welcome
This unique Center crosses institutional boundaries to harness the energy and excitement of research in diabetes, metabolism, endocrinology, and cardiovascular disease in four outstanding institutions and to serve the needs of diabetes/endocrinology researchers at
This comprises the major component of research in these fields in Southern California.
Overview
The DERC fosters interaction and collaboration between talented researchers at these institutions and has an important role in bringing outstanding scientists into diabetes and endocrine research. Our membership has grown to approach 150 eminent scientists with combined current NIH, ADA and JDRF funding of nearly $50 Million.
The center is organized into five Biomedical Research Bases:
- Nuclear Receptors
- Cell Signaling
- Metabolism Complications
- Macrovascular Complications
- Microvascular Complications
- β-cell Biology
Each has leaders in all fields as members of these Bases.
The DERC supports five Core facilities:
The Center is an important resource for education, training, raising awareness of endocrine and diabetes research. It supports:
- Pilot and Feasibility grants for young and newly focused research scientists
- Hosts Seminars and Meetings
